Obituary

Edward Davis, Jr. was born on July 4, 1945 to Nazarene Caldwell and Edward Davis, Sr. in Danville, Virginia.  He was the oldest of 6 siblings, Billy, Debra, Larry (deceased), Boyd (deceased), and Gary (deceased).  He joined the Navy during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged following an underwater explosion on his vessel which prevented him from going overseas.  On October 8, 1966 he wedded Carol Jean Woodson. They were married for 57 years and from this union they had 3 children, Edward (deceased), Susan Carol (deceased), and Scott Woodson. He has four grandchildren, Lexus, Glenda, Anderson Edward and Jasmine Kennedy.

He join Eureka Lodge #52 of the Prince Hall Masons where he became a Worshipful Master and a 33rd Degree Mason.  He was also a member of Bethel Chapter #58 OES.  He loved doing ritualistic work with the Masons and working alongside his wife with youth groups sponsored by the Masons.  Ed worked as a warehouse project manager, truck driver and entrepreneur. He and his wife owned a video and ice cream store in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. In retirement, he worked alongside his wife in her catering business, Carol’s Eatable Art.  He battled diabetes eventually losing a leg to the disease but this only hardened his resolve to become more active.

He re-learned how to drive with only one leg.  He also became active with the Veterans Administration wheelchair games, participating in their various events around the country. He participated on the VA bowling, bocce ball, and slalom racing teams.  He even scaled a rock climbing wall and this year he had hopes of doing the winter sports games.  He was always on the move.

His greatest love was his grandchildren and he enjoyed spending time with them.  This year he had the opportunity to walk his oldest granddaughter Lexus down the aisle.  You could also catch him courtside watching his grandson Anderson playing basketball and watching his youngest granddaughter Jasmine in her dance recitals or delivering her powerful oratories.  Wherever you saw Ed, you saw Carol.  They were best friends. He loved his family and his cousin Helen who he thought of like a sister.  He is a shining example of a life well lived.

He was always supportive of the VA programs and encouraged others to participate. I will miss his infectious laugh! Rest in peace Ed. You will be missed.

My brother in law always had a smile on his face and all ways encourage one to participate and seek programs that provide funding for further education. One phase he always said was that “son of a gun” when making references to a situation. BTW his wife saids the same thing. Let’s remember the joy he bought to our lives because he lived.

I love you uncle Eddie. It’s great to learn some details about your life that I never knew. Aunt Peaches, I love you. I know you both had a beautiful marriage and beautiful life together. I know you will find each other again in the next lifetime and be together again. I also really appreciate the times y’all spent with my children, I’m happy they gave you both some joy

Sorry for his passing. He was a good man. It is funny how life works. I grew up with his son Scoot and I remember Eddie. We would be in the basement and I would see pictures on the wall of men in black suits and women in white dresses. I had no idea what that was. Years later I joined the Order and we became reacquainted. Whatever he did he pursued with vigor. He and his wife were an excellent example of teamwork. He must take his test now and we all have the memories.

    Godspeed
