MS. WANDA SMITH

Passed away July 25, 2023 in Las Vegas, NV. Loving daughter, sister, and aunt. Memorial service Saturday, August 12, 2023 11am at Mediterranean Party Center, 25021 Rockside Road Bedford Heights, Oh.

Wanda Jean Smith was born on January 13, 1950, in Laurel, Mississippi to the
union of the late Booker T. Smith, Sr. and Katie Ruth (Davis) Smith. Wanda was
the second oldest of five children.
Wanda was educated in the Cleveland Public School System. She attended Ohio
University in Athens, Ohio where she joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She
graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education.
Wanda found work as a teacher first at Chambers Junior High in East Cleveland,
Ohio and later with the Cleveland Municipal School District. After teaching for a
few years, Wanda became an insurance salesperson. Her outgoing personality
was instrumental to her success.
Wanda eventually relocated to San Antonio, Texas where she resided for over
forty years. She began and ended her time there as a classroom teacher. In the
interim, she owned and operated a cleaning company, became a Shaklee
distributor, and worked in radio advertising.
Wanda was one of the philosophers in her family. She spent countless hours,
especially with her father, discussing and ultimately trying to solve the world’s
problems. Wanda was very outgoing, eager to try new things, and open to
adventure. She enjoyed plants and flowers, her various aquariums, and her
beloved cat, Amiga.
Wanda departed this life on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada where
she had recently moved. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She
was preceded in death by her father, Booker T. Smith, Sr. and her older sister,
Trina Smith Garrett.
Left to mourn Wanda’s passing and cherish her memory: her mother, Katie
Smith; sisters Cheryl Johnson (William), and Onni McCoy (Kenneth); one brother,
Booker T. Smith, Jr. (Bonitta); her aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews, and a
host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
