Flossie B. Allmond Bell was born August 29, 1923 to the late Willie and Jennie Jones in Selma, Alabama. She confessed Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the Little Canaan Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J.J. Deere in October 1937. Flossie was a graduate of the Knox Academy High School class of 1942. After graduating she began working at the Good Samaritan Hospital as nurse. Flossie moved to Cleveland, Oh in 1945 with Mr.& Mrs. McCarthy, family friends. Soon after her arrival she united with the New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Elder A.J.W. Warren. Flossie worked as Sunday School Teacher for over 55 years and served in the Music Ministry of New Sardis for 51 years. Flossie also worked with the Mother’s Ministry, Nurse’s Guild, Darcus Society, Women’s Ministry, Discipleship Ministry, Noon Day Bible Study and the Food Bank. Flossie was a graduate of the Warren Bible Institute and the Evangelical Teacher Training Association, she later became an instructor at the Warren Bible Institute. Flossie was joined in Holy Matrimony with Samuel Allmond on September 28, 1946. Samuel preceded her in death in February 1976. They were blessed with six godchildren: Cusseta “Jean” Bolden, Robin (deceased), Keith, Alfred, Lisa and Darrick Godbott. Flossie was later joined in Holy Matrimony with Perro Bell on December 28, 1982. Perro also preceded her in death in December 1997. In 1953 Flossie began working in the National Primitive Baptist Convention USA. In her 52 years of service in the National Primitive Baptist Convention, she has served in offices such as the President of the Youth Congress, Assistant Recording Secretary, Recording Secretary (20 years) and Recording Secretary Emeritus of the Women’s Congress in the National Primitive Baptist Convention, she organized the Marton’s Guild at her home church, New Sardis. She also worked in Chicago River Association and the Mid-Western States Primitive Baptist Convention. She had many names: Sis Allmond, Mother Bell, Ma Bell, Flossie, Ma Flossie, Aunt Flossie and Cousin Flossie. Whichever name you called her was always the same, you couldn’t have soft feeling when you would encounter her. On Monday, July 25, 2014 Flossie was welcomed into her heavenly home, although our hearts were sadden, we are still able rejoice and give God praise for a life well lived. Flossie leaves to cherish her memories: Five godchildren, Cusseta “Jean” Bolden of Atlanta, GA, Keith (Lydia) Godbott, Columbus, OH, Alfred, Lisa, and Darrick (Carissa) Godbott of Cleveland, OH; five god-grandchildren, Lydia Michelle (Earl), Amber, Emma, Brandy, and Aaron; Cousin, Mary Davis of Detroit, MI; longtime family friend Louise Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral service Friday, July 25, 2014 1030am at New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church,3474 E. 147th Street Cleveland, OH 44120. Family will receive friends at 10am.
