MS. SHARONNE LOPEZ

Passed away July 7, 2022. Direct Cremation, family to have private service.

Sharonne Lopez, known to most as “Shay”, “Shay-Shay” or Ms. Lopez, was born on January 16th, 1953, to Algnon and Gloria Lopez in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the first of six siblings. Both parents and two sisters, Carla and Joycelyn Lopez preceded her in death.

Shay began her career at Osborne Factory with her Grandmother Freddie Stewart at 19. She took on the responsibility to help her mother care of her brother and sisters. Shay’s journey in the workforce would take on a new adventure. In 1982, she enlisted in the United States Army where she would travel the world for the next five years. Shay had the opportunity to visit Hawaii, El-Salvador and Antarctica.

As her military career was slowly winding down, Shay would find herself on another endeavor. In 1987, she fell in love and married the father of her soon-to-be children, Mr. Charles Edward Booker. “Just The Two” of them would only be together for a short period of time before another expansion within their lives. Their first son, Jullian Booker, entered the world on April 12th, 1988. Jullian, also known as Ju-Ju, would only share Shay and Charles’ attention for so long before gaining a life-long friend. Shay and Charles were blessed with their daughter, Portia Booker, on November 30th, 1991.

Shay loved and adored her family. She was awarded the luxury to be a stay-at-home-mother for the primary years of Jullian and Portia’s life. The ambitious Shay always took care of business. She worked several jobs before pursuing her true passion of returning to school to become a special education teacher. Shay graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in 2001 and completed several courses at Cleveland State University. She would impact the lives of many students for the next 13 years in the Cleveland Municipal School District. In 2013, Shay would trade in her teacher role to become a full-time caregiver of her Grandmother Freddie (Nanny).

Post her retirement, she continued to teach life lessons, donate educational books and supplies to families or neighbors in need along with checking in on her loved ones. If she knew a simplistic method of solving a problem, she had a ready to go explanation that a fourth grader could comprehend. She was always last to get dressed for every party, but first to get it started once she walked in. Shay’s signature barbecue sauce had everyone looking forward to summer cookouts at Nanny’s house. Her unforgettable laugh combined with her expressive sense of humor would always bring a laugh and a smile to those around her. Shay’s kind and welcoming heart made everyone feel part of the family, which was her life motto.

Shay leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Jullian Booker (Frank) and daughter Portia Booker; grand-puppy Mr. Fletcher Blaze; two sisters Tunya Lopez and Pamela Johnson (Tony); one brother Keith Lopez (Brenda); two nieces Fraleta Walker and Carla Spearman; three nephews Dana Lopez, Christopher Johnson (Lupe), and Justin Johnson; two great nephews Antonio Gray and Antwoine Gray, and three great nieces Dayna Lopez, Natalie Johnson, and Maria-Glenn Johnson along with a host of cousins in Cleveland, Akron, California and special friends around the globe.

    Lopez,
you taught me so many life lessons. I remember, my first day working with the school district I met you. We became more than co-worker’s, we became family. We laughed, cried, and had our ups & downs, but the love was always there.
I will always love you, T💚
